Replace Goulds Axial Flow Pump Working principle
The working principle of axial flow pump is different from that of centrifugal pump. It mainly uses the thrust generated by the high-speed rotation of the impeller to lift water. The lift generated by the rotation of the axial flow pump blades can push the water from the bottom to the top.
The blades of the axial flow pump are generally immersed in the pool of water source. Due to the high-speed rotation of the impeller, the lift generated by the blades continuously pushes the water upward and causes the water to flow out along the outlet pipe. As the impeller rotates continuously, the water is continuously pressed to a high place.
2. General characteristics of axial flow pump
(1) The direction of water flowing through the axial flow pump is along the axial direction of the impeller, and the axial direction flows out, so it is called an axial flow pump.
(2) Low head (1 to 13 meters), large flow rate, high efficiency, suitable for irrigation and drainage in plains, lakes, and rivers.
(3) No need to fill water before starting, simple operation.

The disadvantages of axial flow pumps are: ① limited self-priming capacity; ② low single-stage head; ③ steep efficiency curve and narrow high-efficiency zone. Axial flow pumps are widely used in irrigation, water supply and drainage, inland waterway dredging, power engineering and other fields that require large amounts of liquid to be transported but do not require high head. They are also used in nuclear power engineering and ship propulsion.
Unlike the design theory of centrifugal pumps, the current design theories of axial flow pumps are diverse and have their own characteristics. Axial flow pumps are almost all single-stage. Most of them are installed vertically to reduce the footprint. In addition, there are also horizontal installations and inclined axis installations for occasions with particularly large flow rates and very low head. Regardless of the installation form, the flow components of the axial flow pump are basically composed of the suction port, impeller, guide vane, and the curved pipe behind the guide vane.
